Supporting Crime Survivors
Standing With Survivors of Homicide
We believe survivors of homicide deserve more than condolences but care, community, and real, sustained support.
Too often, systems respond ineffectively to the needs of those left behind after violence—offering short-term attention, bureaucratic hurdles, and conditional support. Once the headlines fade or a case is “closed” or “stalled”, survivors are too often abandoned, left to navigate uncertainty on their own.
This page serves as a resource for those seeking support after homicide. Whether you're looking for grief support, emotional care, peer connection, or a way to turn pain into purpose, we’re here to help connect you to community-based resources.
We honor your experience, believe your voice matters, and are committed to building systems that center your healing.
Connection Opportunities
-
Community-based victim advocate is a support person who walks alongside survivors of violence—outside of the traditional criminal legal system. Our work is grounded in healing, empowerment, and community care.
Unlike system-based advocates (who work for prosecutors or law enforcement agencies), our community-based advocates are trained in supporting the needs of survivors and connect victims to support services and resources regardless of case status. We focus on what survivors actually need—not what the system prioritizes.
What Community-Based Victim Advocates Do:
Provide emotional support grounded in trust, not bureaucracy
Help survivors navigate systems like victim compensation and connecting to community based resources
Honor survivor autonomy We respect your right to choose how you engage with the system—if at all.
Center cultural relevance and trauma-informed practices
What Makes Us Different:
We don’t work for the state—we work for you
We support all survivors, regardless of system involvement or history
We prioritize healing
Our community-based victim advocates hold space for grief and justice that isn’t dependent on courtroom outcomes. There are no contracts, timelines, or expectations—just care that meets you where you are.

Resource Database
Navigating life after losing a loved one to homicide is overwhelming—and too often, families are left searching for help on their own. That’s why we created the Arizona Survivor Resource Database: a growing, accessible hub of grief support that can be utilized and found 24/7/365.
Our goal is simple: to make sure no survivor is left without care, connection, or guidance.
If you know of a reliable, survivor-centered resource that should be included, please email our Survivor Outreach Coordinator, Destiny at Destiny@azforsafety.org
